JuneFest plans underway

Choctaw County’s annual JuneFest is slated for Saturday, June 9 in downtown Ackerman. This year’s festival will feature fan favorites along with some changes. The biggest change this year is having all the JuneFest activities in one day, June 9 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. This will be the first year to have a one day festival. Events will begin with the 5K Run/Walk (in its second year) and sponsored by Choctaw County 4-H. The annual Pet Show sponsored by the 20th Century Club will also take place that morning. All proceeds go to the Choctaw County Library. During the day, festival-goers will enjoy arts and crafts booths, food vendors, inflatables (the kid’s favorite), local entertainment and the popular Car Show sponsored by the Choctaw Cruisers. Vendors are still needed for JuneFest. If you are an arts and crafts, food or non-profit vendor interested in setting up at JuneFest call the Choctaw Chamber of Commerce at 285-3778 for more information. New this year will be a Farmer’s Market and a Miss JuneFest pageant. Miss JuneFest is sponsored by the 20th Century Club with more details to be announced soon. The 20th Century Club is also sponsoring the popular and favorite Bingo at Pap’s that night. Saturday night entertainment will feature Jason Miller taking the stage at 8 p.m. Make sure to come early to claim your spot near the pavilion in downtown Ackerman! Miller, of Sturgis, was the vocalist Crossing Dixon before recently starting his solo career. Candace Pitts of Mantachie will open for Miller taking the stage at 6:30 p.m. She has been entertaining audiences in and around the south for the past two decades. JuneFest t-shirts are $12 each and must be ordered by May 18. To order call Donna McKay at 285-3778 or Ginny Lucas at 547-6066. Sponsorships for JuneFest are still available. For more information call the Chamber of Commerce at 285-3778. More details about this year’s JuneFest will be announced soon.
