Resident arrested for exploitation

A Choctaw County resident has been arrested for exploitation of a vulnerable person, announced Attorney General Jim Hood today. Hortense Whigham, age 65, was arrested at her Choctaw county residence today by investigators of the Attorney General’s Vulnerable Adults Unit with the assistance of Sheriff Cloyd Halford and his department. The arrest follows an April 4 indictment by the Winston County Grand Jury on one count of felonious exploitation of a vulnerable person. The indictment accuses Whigham of writing a check on the 95-year-old victim’s bank account to purchase a $29,000 vehicle. Whigham was booked into the Winston County Jail. No bond has been set at this time. As with all cases, the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. The case is being investigated by Russell Frazier and prosecuted by Special Assistant AG I. Michel Buckley.
