Local students earn ICC scholarships

Scholarship recipients at Itawamba Community College for 2012 include Steven Drake Hughes of Ackerman, Special Achievement; Allannah Brianne Mitchell of Ackerman, Leadership, Regular Career Incentive and Harlie Pyron of Ackerman, ACT Achievement Incentive, Leadership. Hughes will be a 2012 graduate of Ackerman High School where he has participated in football, basketball, chorus and SkillsUSA. His honors include third place in prepared speech in the SkillsUSA regional, second place in regional science fair and fifth place in state science fair. Hughes’ other activities include youth group at Enon Cumberland Presbyterian Church and participant in mission work. He is the son of Steve and Lesia Hughes. Mitchell will be a 2012 graduate of Ackerman High School where her activities have included cheerleading, chorus, Beta Club, Health Occupations Students of America, Mu Alpha Theta, Future Teachers of America, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, power lifting and academic team. Her honors are algebra I and II awards, allied health II class representative, Distinguished Young Woman essay winner, All-American cheerleader, state cheerleading championship (two years) and second in state cheerleading. Mitchell’s other activities include Ackerman Juniorettes, junior counselor at Woodman of the World, church youth group, drama team and choir. She is the daughter of Holli Mitchell and Todd and Nikki Mitchell. At Ackerman High School where she will be a 2012 graduate, Pyron has participated in volleyball, dance team, power lifting, Beta Club, Health Occupations Students of America and Mu Alpha Theta. Her honors include HOSA Student of the Year and president; and highest average in allied health I and II, health, Mississippi studies, world geography and zoology. She is the daughter of Brian Pyron and Sonya Pyron.
