The Choctaw County School Board and school principals presented the Parents of the Year with a plaque during the March 8 board meeting.
Each principal presented the Parent of the Year for their school the plaque and explained why they were chosen.
Parents of the Year are Teri Cox for Weir Attendance Center and the Choctaw County School District, Jennifer King for Ackerman Elementary School, Shelia “Tinker Forrester for Ackerman High School and Lauren Chesser for French Camp Elementary.
The School Board held two separate executive sessions. The first was an expulsion hearing and the board “accepted the alternative school’s recommendation” and the second was to discuss a personnel issue where no action was taken.
After a short discussion, the board approved to move their April board meeting to April 10 due to Easter holidays and a snow day. On this meeting day, the board will meet at 5 p.m. at French Camp Elementary then Weir Attendance Center at 6 p.m. for their annual inspection of the schools. The board will then meet at Central Office at 7 p.m. for their regular meeting.
The board also approved for their May 14 to meet at 5 p.m. at Ackerman High School then go to Ackerman High School and the Career and Technology Center before meeting back at Central Office at 7 p.m. for their regular meeting.
The School Board also adopted the updated board policies C, D, E, and F. They discussed updated policy I but tabled that for now.
In the consent agenda the board:
Approved corrections to board policy GBRCA discussed at last board meeting and tabled GBRM-2.
Approved District Test Security Plan 2011-2012.
Approved Choctaw County 2012-2013 School Calendar.
Approved Erate Plan for 2012-2013.
Approved roof repair of AHS old white gym. Before approving this, Superintendent Glen Beard said the AHS Booster Club made a “sizeable donation” to the school district for this project. He said there will be no cost to the district.
Approved Mike Brown and Amanda Carden share bus route.
Approved attendance of Jewel Evans to Financial Fitness For Life Workshop in Starkville.
Approved attendance of Lauren Chambley to 2012 MSHA Annual Conference in Jackson.
Approved attendance of Sherri McMinn and Missy Martin to National Math Conference in Philadelphia.
