A food drive to collect dried beans/peas (any variety) and peanut butter for Broken Wings Ministry is underway. Donations may be dropped off at the Choctaw County Extension Office in the Courthouse Annex or at Broken Wings.
Women’s Issues Support Group
A free Women’s Issues Support Group is being held every Tuesday at from 1 p.m.-2:30 p.m.at Cissy’s Gym in Ackerman. The group is being led by Mickey Miller, Christian/consultant/facilitator. For more information call 662-861-9899. You do not have to be a member of the gym to join the group.
Cissy’s Gym also offers karate classes on Mondays and Thursdays from 3:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m. for kids and adults and offers PACE/stretch chair aerobics class Monday-Friday from 11 a.m.-noon. Call 705-0162 for more information.
4-H Forestry practice will begin Wednesday, March 21 at 3:30 pm at the Choctaw County Extension Office. Youth ages 10-18 interested in forestry are invited to attend. NARFE Will Meet
The National Active & Retired Federal Employees Association will meet Thursday, March 22 at the Hilton Garden Inn on Highway 12 East of Starkville. The guest speaker will be Paige Lawes, speaking about the upcoming “Everything Garden Expo” to be held in Starkville. Time for the meeting is 11:30 a.m. All active and retired federal employees are encouraged to attend.
Cooking with Herbs
Ashley Fondren will present a program on Cooking with Herbs Thursday, March 22 (via interactive video) from noon-1 pm at the Choctaw County Extension Office. Everyone is invited to attend. The annual Gordon Family Reunion, descendants of William and Eliza Jane Farrar Gordon, will be held Sunday, March 25 at the Panhandle Community Center in Choctaw County. We will gather at 11 a.m. with lunch at noon followed by a cakewalk. You are also invited to attend worship services at Mt. Zion Presbyterian Church at 11 a.m. Family, friends and neighbors are invited to attend.
Tombstone Images and Symbols
“Tombstone Images and Symbols” will be the topic of the March 26 Choctaw County Historical & Genealogical Society meeting. Margie Gilmer and Marian McCulloch will present the program at noon at the Choctaw County Library. The public is invited to attend. The Triad Council will meet on Tuesday, March 27 at noon. The meeting will be held at the Weir Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, Fellowship Hall on Martin Luther King Blvd in Weir. Come and enjoy the fellowship with friends, if the weather permits.
Triad is the agreement of Law Enforcement Agencies in the County and older or retired persons in the community working together to reduce the criminal victimization of the elderly and the disabled persons in the county. Triad works to reduce crime for everyone.
Mother Anita Terrell from Louisville with the Tri C Disease Coalition Training MS State Department of Health Diabetes Prevention & Control Program has been invited to attend our meeting with important facts on Diabetes.
The Triad Council will not be purchasing meals. Therefore the Triad Council Members will volunteer to bring a covered dish to enjoy fellowship with each other.

Providence Baptist Church invites ladies to their 6th Annual Ladies Conference on Friday, April 13 at 6 p.m. Providence Baptist Church is located on Hwy. 215 in Choctaw County. Guest speaker will be Tracey Stone of Hamilton Ohio. She is the wife of former MLB player Ricky Stone and the mother of two. She and her husband are both cancer survivors and strong Christians who even in the most difficult times, continue to praise God. Music will be led by Nicole Oswalt. She is the wife of MLB player Roy Oswalt and the mother of three. She has been singing since the age of two and is a strong Christian. Come join us for a night of music, worship and fun. Refreshments and door prizes will follow in the church fellowship fall. Nursery will be provided.
